Opportunities for Majority - Research of Water and Drain Consume

Opportunities for majority; research of water and drain consume.

Invertir Institute realizes researches about changes of consume composition of households connected to public network of water and drain.

As part of the “Opportunities for majority” program, an initiative taken from the International Development Bank focused on promoting and financing new strategies of economic and social development for the underprivileged population benefit of South America and Caribbean, Invertir Institute completed the research about the composition of households connected to public net of water and drain in the urban environment inside and outside metropolitan Lima.

The main goal of this research is to demonstrate, on a base of empiric evidence, how the composition of water consumes changes in Peruvian households when accessing to a connection to drinkable water and sewer systems.

According to this point, the research proves that the connection to drinkable water and sewer systems is associated to an increase of total consumes per capita for these families who live in an urban environment outside metropolitan Lima. Also, it concludes that the connection is associated to an increase of working income coming from independent activities.

On the other hand, the research precises that connection to drinkable water and sewer systems is also associated to a rise in the proportion of families that use some part of their accommodation for activities that generate incomes in families who live en urban environment outside metropolitan Lima.

In terms of expenses per capita by consuming areas, the most affected ones are in general the consumes of water, expenses in education, washing goods and housing ones.

At least, meanwhile the water consuming is increasing; we can notice a rise of families’ budgets but it is probable that the connection to drinkable water and sewer system don’t generate bigger restrictions of budget but instead, an insignificant readaptation in the composition of the families expenses with a small increase in the capacity to generate money.
